Mathis 31 Sportfish - Design 1595

This design is a bit of a mystery. The technical files show a project name of Mathis 31'. Mathis was historically a boat builder in Camden, New Jersey which eventually became Trumpy Yachts. Yet Mathis ceased building boats in the mid 1950s and the date of this design is 1961.

The boat was extensively tank tested at the Davidson Laboratory at Stevens Institute of New Jersey. Here's an image of the tank testing in progress with the boat at 20.2 knots.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 31'-0"
LWL 28'-0"
Beam 10'-7"
Draft 2'-3"

  1. This boat was produced starting in 1963 as a 33 footer. Hull #1 is (or was) sitting in a warehouse in Washington NC as of about 2012. It was owned by my family from 1968 until 1989

  2. Very happy addition to the above comment: Hull #1 is still in that Washington NC warehouse undergoing restoration and looking fantastic as of October 2015.
