Design 2436 - Avance 40

The year was 1982 and it is my suspicion is that since we had ceased being the "official" designers of the Nautor Swan line (ending with the Swan 76), someone in Finland saw an opportunity to perhaps attract the Swan aficionados to this new brand. Built by the AB Oja Batar Group, this design is certainly reminiscent of the Nautor line.

Here is a design review from SAILING magazine from 1983. Double click for readable version.

Here are the plans.

Ballast 8,400 lbs
Sail Area 826 sq ft

  1. We have an Advance 40 in Nova Scotia and absolutly love the boat. We have done extended cruising to southren climes and we do participate in our local Wednesday night races. As there are no other Avances and we do not race in the larger reagttas, we have a handicap that will never get us out of last place. Is there anyone who has regatta result information that they could send along to us as we are trying to have our handicap adjusted. Please contact us at armdalecove@yahoo.ca
