Design 1255 - Pandora IV

This steel motorsailer was built by the Burger Boat Company of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The boat was model tank tested at the Stevens Institute. She was launched in 1957.

Here she is on the day of her launch. You can see it's winter and a temporary shelter has been built over the cockpit. My guess is the boat has been set up for traversing the canal system.

Interestingly I believe the reference to "Pandora" is the installation of the one-way glass in the deck-house, for privacy.

Here are the plans.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 68'-1"
LWL 50'-0"
Beam 16'-8"
Draft 5'-9"
Displacement 101,200 lbs
Ballast 22,400 lbs
Sail Area 2,048 sq ft

  1. Thank you for posting this. The boat was built for Robert Livingston Ireland ("Liv") of Cleveland, OH. This was the fourth of his boats named Pandora (big surprise!). All of his many boats were given names starting with "P". Pemaquid Maine summers, Nassau Harbor Yacht Club - winters. Sold circa 1982.
