Impala - Design 1056

This gorgeous yacht was constructed by Abeking & Rasmussen of Germany for an American yachtsman. She was launched in 1954. It's interesting to note in the image above just how you achieve an aft cabin but place the companionway into the main salon ahead of it: you simply walk on deck right by the aft cabin.

Here is a construction sequence from the laying of her keel to being put on a ship to America.

Here are the plans.

And an early article from Yachting magazine.

I pinched this image out of an article in Blue Water Sailing magazine, Apr-06, about sailing in Norway. It's the only sailing shot I could find.

  1. Have been fortunate enough to sail on Impala from
Barcelona to Minorca, Minorca to Sardinia, Corsica,
the Porquerolles, along the western and eastern coast of Italy, across to Corfu,up the coast of Croa-
tia, into Venice. We hope to sail through the Greek
Islands next year. Impala is an incredibly comfortable and seaworthy yacht. She has made four
trans Atlantic crossings.Have also sailed in the
Baltic and down the coast of Spain, Portugal and Brittany.

Have also been aboard sailing up the coast of
Denmark, down the coast of Spain , Portugal,Brittany. Her present Captain Alfie
Sanford has sailed with his crew Connor Wallance
and Oliver La Farge up the coast of Norway
through all the islands off Northern England,
    the Aland Island to Helsinki.

She has made many trips up and down the Eastern coast of the United States-up to Nova
Scotia and the Brador Lakes, the Azores, and all
    through the Caribbean and Bahamas.

She is a beautiful, comfortable, and seaworthy
yacht that always receives many compliments where-
ever she goes. People really appreciate the beauty
of her lines. I feel privileged to have been aboard this amazing and beautiful yacht. We hope
to sail many more miles aboard her.
