Design 1755 - Nan of Gare


This 8-meter cruiser/racer was built by McGruer & Company, Ltd. of Scotland. She is constructed of alternating galvanized steel and oak framing with mahogany planking. She was launched in 1965.

  1. This was the quite simply the best yacht in the most competitive class on the Clyde when we were kids growing up there. The flatter sheer and wider beam were ahead of the time. Nan was also beautifully detailed and built like the other McGruer 8CRs. Thanks.

  2. Had a part in the building of Nan of Gare. Also met Rod Stevens when he was over to do trials.As an 18yr old in was a big moment for me racing that day.

  3. I had the pleasure of crewing with Peter Wilson on Nan of Gare 1066 though 1969 and wish I could still be doing that. It was an amazing adventure that I shall never forget.
