Design 911 - Maybe

This pretty yawl is a descendant of design #602, Revonoc. By this I mean that the hull shape, construction plans and so forth from Revonoc were used but a new sail plan was developed. She was built by Henry B. Nevins of City Island, New York and launched in 1950.

She has a fine racing record having participated in 10 Bermuda races, several Halifax races and numerous races on Block Island Sound as well as a trans-Atlantic to Spain in 1957. She also participated in the 1957 Fastnet Race. After her racing career, and renamed White Mist, she enjoyed extensive cruising.

Here are the plans. The sail plan is specific to Maybe while the general arrangement as used (along with lines, etc) is from Revonoc.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 45'-4"
LWL 32'-0"
Beam 12'-1"
Draft 4'-5"(board up)
Displacement 25,860 lbs
Ballast 7,550 lbs
Sail Area 1,084 sq ft

  1. Today, July 10, 2012, at 8:10am, White Mist (ex-MAYBE) was launched at Cape Breton Boatyard in Baddeck, NS. All paint was fresh to include hull, deck and bright work.

I have owned White Mist since 1995. The boat is in fine shape after several years of ccumulative upgrading to include and refastening (2007). White Mist was owned by Blunt White from 1952-1962. Melville B. Grosvenor purchased White Mist from Blunt White's estate in 1962.

I bought White Mist in 1995 because the boat has everything a great boat should have, fine aesthetics, great sailing capabilities and true structural integrity that Henry Nevins, the builder, created.

    1. Hi I read your comments on White Mist (Maybe). I am trying to track down the yacht S&S Maybe that was owned by my godfather Al Hitz purchased early 60's and sold around 1975 (after his death). His original Maybe was burned in a fire at Seth Pearsons boat yard in Essex. any idea how long Grosvenor owned her. Curiously I lived across the street from Blunt White's son Bill and sailed with him on Snow White. Do you still own WM
