Design 2254 - Pirana

This ocean racing yacht was built by Palmer Johnson of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. She is constructed of aluminum. The boat looks like a smart little racing yacht. Amenities below are minimal for weight savings. Pirana was launched in 1976.

The construction method was somewhat usual. The "T" bar longitudinals were installed with their flanges against the shell plating. PJ felt this would reduce deformation of the topsides during welding and reduce denting during her sailing life.

Light air performance was emphasized and she seems to be ghosting along nicely in the light air shown in these photographs.

Here are the plans.

LWL 33'-9"
