Design 2134 - Northstar 80/20

Here's another by Hughes Boat Works of Ontario, Canada. The name refers to Hughes desire to develop a boat that is all about 80% sailing capability and 20% motoring capability. She was intended as a true blue water boat. The boat was introduced in 1973. Please note this design number directly preceded the Northstar 500, my previous posting.

Here are the plans.

Here's the original brochure.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 39'-7"
LWL 31'-0"

  1. Hi Mr. Johnson,

I'm looking at a 1974 NorthStar, and the surveyor has indicated that a steel beam was used under the wood blocking at the base of the mast step? does the design show a steel beam in this location? and if so for what purpose?

    Merry Christmas

  2. This boat seems to have a high Disp./Len. of 368.64 which would put it in the motorsailer category. Ia that correct?
