Design 2323 - World of Love

This ocean racing yacht was designed to outperform her competition, especially in light air. She is designed for a large crew of 11, with berths for all and a separate working cockpit. She was constructed of aluminum by Walter Huisman of Vollenhove, Holland and launched in 1978.

Joinery has been kept to the absolute minimal and the forward end of the accomodations is devoted to sail storage.

Here are the plans.

LWL 37'-4"
Beam 16'-0"
Draft 8'-4"

  1. This yacht now sails out of Portsmouth on the south coast of England, in pretty much original condition other than new rig and keel.

  3. I bought it about five years ago from a german owner who had owned it since the 1980s. He told me it had been built for a Turkish owner who had chartered it to Conny van Rietschoten who had used it to train his crew for his second Whitbread race. I don't think it raced very much but cruised quite a lot from the Baltic to the Mediterranean. If you know more, maybe you could let me know.

  4. Dear anonymus,

Yes it is true, the boat was build for the Turkish owner who only used it a couple of times but remained most of its early life still in the water. Around 1984,85 the yacht was sailed to Holland and my father helped the owner to sell the yacht. It was sailed from the Mediterranean to Holland by one of Conny's crew members from his last 1981/1982 Whitbread victory. After that Conny did not race the Whitbread any more. I know ot was sold to a german who probably sold the boat to you. I would be very interested to know where she is currently?

  5. Dear Friso V
The boat is currently in Portsmouth, on the South coast of England. We don't race it anymore and lack of time prevents us cruising long distances. We used to sail a 46 feet S&S boat from 1971, but this is a remarkably more powerful boat.
