Design 1701 - Rainbow Class

The Rainbow Class was developed for the Annapolis Sailing School in 1961. She is a fiberglass production boat. Production ran until 1977 with approximately 500 units delivered.

Here's an article from The Skipper magazine from '64. It explains that there were some growing pains along the way. Please double click for zoom.

Here are the plans.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 24'-3"
LWL 17'-3"
Beam 6'-3"
Draft 3'-6"
Displacement 1,750 lbs
Ballast 810 lbs
Sail Area 218 sq ft

I really like this publicity shot.

  1. Still a mess of these in Annapolis.

  2. logged hundreds of hours on these boats as instructor at Annapolis Sailing School, still solid as a rock all these years later.

    1. PLEASE contact us at so we can make sure to invite you to alumni events here at the sailing school.

  3. did later years have wood core decks?
