Design 2155 - Thunder

Thunder is a one-tonner, built of fiberglass by Jeremy Rogers of Lymington, England in 1973 as a one-off. Five sisters were to follow. The sisterships were marketed as the Contessa 38. The design is a development of Lightnin', design #2094-C1.

Here are the plans.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 38'-6"
LWL 28'-9"
beam 11'-6"
Draft 6'-3"
Displacement 15,500 lbs
Ballast 8,000 lbs
Sail Area 622 sq ft

  1. Assassin, K3647 was the last of the series build in 1974 according to Mrs. Fiona Rogers of the J.C. Rogers yard. She was build for close friends of the Rogers family. The 2nd Dutch owner changed her name to African Queen, all pictures here are of the same yacht.
I have been told design 2155 is very similar to the Nautor Swan 38. Production has been discontinued due to concerns raised to S&S by Nautor Swan. J.C. Rogers continued succesfully with Doug Peterson designs.

Assassin has been renamed Swarte Swaen by the third Dutch owner and he had her restored in 2004-2007, she is currently available for sale in Northern Europe. More
