Vintage Advertisement - NY32

Here is a nice vintage brokerage advertisement for a New York 32, design #125. I would estimate the year as ~1940. There are numerous articles within these pages about the NY32s. Simply type NY32 in the search field above to access.

Design 1590 - Scatoulista II

This beautiful 5.5-meter racing yacht was built by the Corsier-Port shipyard of Geneva, Switzerland. She was launched in 1960 and is one of only ten 5.5-meters designed by the firm. It is interesting to note that of the ten, four consecutive boats were built by the same yard between 1960 - 1962. They are designs #1590 (Scatoulista II), #1633 (Aramis X), #1696 (Athena) and #1731 (Roy).

The boat was built for the Aga Khan (IV), a repeat customer for Sparkman & Stephens. Scatoulista II (SUI-041) was constructed of carvel planked mohagany.

The boat is now named Laetitia and makes her home in the Netherlands. Like many classic 5.5-meters, she has been retrofitted with a separate spade rudder.

Here are the plans.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 32'-0"
LWL 22'-3"
Beam 6'-3"
Draft 4'-5"

Design 1879 - Glasspar 14' Dinghy

In 1966 we were commissioned to design 3 sizes of fiberglass dinghies for the Glasspar boatbuilding company of Costa Mesa, California. Here is the first with a length overall of 14'.

Here is the general arrangement plan.

None of the 3 models ever went into production. Glasspar seems to have completely focused on powerboats. Please note the draftsman for these plans was the very talented Germán Frers, Jr.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 14'-0"
LWL 12'-5"
Beam 5'-2"
Draft 0'-7" (board up) 3'-5" (board down)
Sail Area 109 sq ft

Design 1944 - Burger 66 Raised Pilothouse

The firm has designed quite a few boats for Burger Boat over the years. For the motoryacht designs, we generally provided a set of Lines, in some cases based on tank testing and Burger then designed the yachts from there. That was the case here. The boat was introduced in 1967.

Here is the outboard profile and general arrangement plan, generated by Burger.

We have been involved with a couple of transom extensions through the years. Here's an example. The small cockpit allowed for easier line handling and better access to the water.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 66'-11"
LWL 61'-6"
Beam 16'-8"
Draft 4'-6"
Hull Material: Aluminum

Design 148 - 18' LOA Sailing Canoe

I was very interested to research this design as I found it very hard to believe we actually designed an 18' canoe as part of our portfolio. As I suspected, we were commissioned only to design a sailing rig for a "stock" canoe as can be seen by the plan list. The year was 1936.

The only thing that seems missing would be a sliding seat or some way to get one's weight outboard in order to keep this enormous sail plan upright.

The plan is a bit tattered, and the poor reproduction is due to the fact we pulled this scan from our microfiche files.

Design 2242 - Alpa A34

This past Friday we posted an article about the Alpa A27, design #2241. This model followed directly on the heels of the A27 and would be the final model designed for Alpa Yachts of Cremona, Italy as well as the final model produced by Alpa. It was introduced in 1977, the final year of yacht production for the company.

Here are the plans.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 33'-1"
